Hey Erin! Thanks for the question. I'll be sure to answer your question in a blog pertaining to athletes.
For individuals who are eating for overall health, rather than for performance goals, it's whatever works for them. However, I don't like diets that restrict you from specific food groups, such as the keto diet. Everyone is different though. Some individuals may be able to eat a diet low in carbs. Some may be able to do intermittent fasting (an eating pattern that cycles between periods of fasting and eating). I've personal never been a fan of "diets", but rather, eating a variety of foods in each food group. This is what's made me feel my best and it's something that I've been able to stick with for multiple years. I won't tell someone to avoid a specific diet, because it may be what works for them; however, when I think of the term "diet", I think of an eating pattern that eventually comes to an end. The goal is to find an eating pattern that is nutritious and can be done for your lifetime. My best advice is to find foods that you enjoy and get a variety of color and nutrients. You shouldn't feel like you're restricting yourself from foods you enjoy. Everything in moderation.
